Ambient? Isolationist? What does it all mean? Featuring both exclusive and re-mastered material Water includes the desolate soundscapes of Mick Harris's Lull, John Everall's Multicide, Justin Godflesh's Final and one track from the Null/Plotkin disc (all of whom have full length Cds on Sentrax. I should state that Water is an introductory CD to artists distributed by D.O.R Infinity, but as it is: it's an excellent sampler for anyone interested in hearing music that's been termed ambient / isolationist (although Virgin have released Ambient4:Isolationism (compiled by Kevin Martin) focussing exclusively on that area). Elsewhere far removed from these sound excursions, you'll find the grinding rock of Cable Regime, the noisy meanderings of Chemical Plant and the primitive electronic rhythms of EC Noise Pollution (sic). It's all good material and worth obtaining to hear music of the discomforting, eerie variety at the bargain price of £5.00/$8.00 providing plenty of interesting sounds to follow up.

'Water', a compilation released by D.O.R. Infinity is volume one in the elements series. It heads off real ambient-industrial. Multicide takes you dep down in some kind of leaking submarine. Lull presents us with this slow tembling didgeridoo that approaches unnoticed like a snake in the grass. The co-operation between K.K.Null (noise formation Zeni Geva) and James Plotkin (OLD) leads to talking steal and romantic gliding synthesizer tunes. You become one with nature. Chemical Plant combine grinding metal with a beat and some plaintive singing in the background. Cable Regime shop nicely with their drum machine like in the old days and add some heavy guitars to it. Last but not least is EC Noise Mountain. This formation gets it's inspiration from hardcore house. Their music is simple, direct and quite aggressive. 'Water' contains divergent styles, making it only the more interesting.

A mid-price sampler of product distributed by DOR Infinity.Contained within are two pieces by Multicide, "Aqua Caelstis", a watery ambient piece, and an edited version of "Ashy Drifts of Insect Corpses" which is more abrasive. Lull contribute "Reflections", a nine minute edit from their new album, and "time", a tonal piece. Chemical Plant offer "Second Liberation" and "Slave To Your Greed", two darker electronic pieces combined with metallic percussion and vocals. Other tracks are "Dead Moon Ritual" by KK Null and James Plotkin which is more mellow than KK Null previous experimental deviations, "Crucifix" by EC Noise Mountain, a furious death-techno track and Final's "Death/Love Dealer" an almost classical sounding piece. For the money this costs you can't go far wrong with this!

WATER est le premier volume d'une série de compilations à prix bas, basée thématiquement sur les éléments. Le but premier est de faire découvrir le travail des artistes distribués par le label. Pour WATER, on retrouve des titres remixés extraits du catalogue du label, mais aussi 28 minutes d'inédits, qui motivent largement l'achat. Ainsi Multicide nous emmène dans un voyage intra-utérin par une pièce faite de grondements hydrophoniques. Lull avec "reflections edit" distille une ambiance proche des meilleurs climats d'Organum. Chemical Plant ébauche un décor apocalyptique post-industriel des plus saisissants et des plus torturés. EC Noise Mountain excelle dans un genre "techno-hardcore-industriel" original, décalé, et endiablé. Nous retrouvons également le fameux duo de guitaristes Kazuyuki K. Null / James Plotkin, avec un extrait de "Aurora" dont nous avons déjà dit beaucoup de bien dans un précédent numéro, et d'autres extraits de Lull, Multicide, Chemical Plant, et Final. Chaque titre est judicieusement choisi pour donner envie à l'auditeur d'en savoir plus sur les groupes proposés. L'ensemble est cohérent et le poster-livret fournit des informations détaillées sur les productions disponibles et à venir. Voila donc une nouvelle forme de compilation-catalogue, intelligemment pensée, qui permet d'en savoir plus sur la musique proposée par un label, tout en étant un véritable disque-concept. Espérons que D.O.R. lnfinity fera ainsi des émules.

Da wurde diese CD von den Hörern eines lithuanischen Radiosenders auf Platz 1 gewählt. In diesen Zeiten des Samplerüberdrußes haben 7 Formationen mit 10 Stücken nun ein solches Hammerteil zustandegebracht? - Ich war skeptisch, doch diese Album übertraf meine kühnsten Erwartungen. Sehr elementar geht es mit Wasserplätschern und Geräuschen aus tiefen Kanalschächten los (Multicide), es folgen superbe Industrialschwaden - spannend und doch entspannend - die ihresgleichen suchen (Lull, Kazuyuki K. Null, Chemical Plant), und zur Mitte hin geht's gleich mit härteren Klängen zwischen Metal-Industrial und avantgardistischem Ambient-Techo weiter (Cable Regime, EC Noise Mountain). Damit wäre der Höhepunkt in Sachen Lautstärke überwunden, und mit weiteren Tracks von Lull, Final, Chemical Plant und Multicide findet diese CD ein eher unterschwellig spannungsgeladenes oder sehr rythmisches Ende. Wie sich Slave To Your Greed diese Chöre in den harten, blechernen Rythmus mischen, ist schon alleine ein musikgeschichtliches Ereignis! Grandios, all diese Details, und abwechslungsreich sowieso. Und wer für diese CD nicht extra nach England reisen will, soll sie einfach bei Discordia bestellen.

"Water" é o primeiro volume da coleção de compilações que a distribuidora D.O.R. usa para desfilar artistas e editoras distribuídas por si. A água, pois então, símbolo do nascimento. E, numa primeira análise, é pena que a temática se gasifique à medida que os 68 minutos do disco vão chegando ao fim. Fica a forte impressão que a inclusão de projectos noise como os Cable Regime ou EC Noise Mountain num outro elemento natural mais viril serviria melhor os propósitos iniciais . . .
Ou seja: algumas tentativas ambientais elevam-se facilmente das outras propostas, e podemos, por isso, encontrar pequenas maravilhas dos Lull, de K.K. Null/James Plotkin e dos Final (todas extraídas de álbums já editados ou a editar brevemente pela Sentrax).
Gratos uma vez mais pela conceptualização de um Vários, iremos, contudo, esperar um pouco mais para reavaliarmos toda a série. A descobrir com alguma moderada intensidade, quanto mais não seja pelo preço reduzido a que a D.O.R. pôs "water" no mercado, não superior a 6 libras.
